  • How to know you are “Test Ready”;

    Your instructor should be able to best advise you whether you have reached a test standard. A series of Mock Tests can be advantageous to identify areas that require improvement. The DVSA has issued guidance regarding knowing when you are “test ready called the “Ready to Pass Campaign”.

  • What happens on test day;

    Park in the candidate parking no more than 10mins prior to test slot. Wait in waiting room for the Examiner to meet you. Your identification and provisional licence will be checked, and you will be asked to conduct an eyesight check. The Examiner will follow you out to your car and the car will be briefly inspected to ensure it is road worthy prior to commencing the test.

  • The Test;

    You will be asked to drive a test routes of approximately 40mins - to include a variety of junctions, roads, areas, hills, speeds, possibly a Controlled (or Emergency) stop and a manoeuvre. The Manoeuvres include a reversing element; Reverse on the Right, Forward Bay Park, Reverse Bay Park and Parallel (or Reverse) Park. An element of the test will Independent Driving, followingroad signs or a Sat Nav.

  • Show Me, Tell Me:

    You will be asked one of the “Show Me” and one of the “Tell Me” vehicle safety questions. The questions can be found here.

  • Common test mistakes;

    The most common serious/dangerous errors stem from errors in Observations (blind spots, mirror checks, junctions, pedestrian crossings, etc) or Control (stalling/rolling back, clearance, manoeuvres, etc).

  • What happens if you fail;

    Once your test is complete, the examiner will inform you if you have been successful or unsuccessful, and explain their reasoning. You will also be emailed a copy of the test summary. Should you be unsuccessful, you will need to book a new test date - this new test date can only be 10 days after the date of the unsuccessful test.
